John Ronald ReulTolkien was a professor at the university in Oxford and a great author. He was born on the 3rd January in 1892 in South-Africa. John was British but his family lived in South-Africa.

Three years later his mother moved with him and his little brother Hillary back to England. John was eight years old as he went to King Edward‘s Grammar School. Four years later his mother died of diabetes at the age of 34. His little brother and he had to move to their aunt‘s house in Birmingham. In 1908 Ronald Tolkien began his first semester at Oxford. He got engaged with his girlfried Edith Bratt in 1914. In the same year the first World war begann. 1915 he started his second semester in english -language and litherature in Oxford.

One year later he married his beautiful wife Edith and he got a march order to France. John lived to see the battle of Somme as lieutenant. As he came back he had an illness of the war. In this year he wrote the „Silmarillion“, his first book about middle ages. His first son John was born and in 1918 he cooperated with the New English Dictionary.Two years later his wife gave birth to their second son Michael. In 1924 he was professsor for english-language in Leeds. His third son Christopher was born in this year when he published „Sir Gwain an the green knight“ with E.V. Gordan in 1925. The same year he began his job as professor in Oxford. Four years later his fourth child Priscilla was born. 1936 Tolkien finished one of his biggest works: he published „The little Hobbit“ (Der kleine Hobbit/Hin und zurück) and then he began to write his famous and brilliant book „The Lord of the Rings“. It took him 11 years to finish and 1947 Tolkien sent the first manuscripts of this story to a publishing house. Three years later he published another brilliant work: „Farmer Giles of Ham“ (Fabelhafte Geschichten). 1955 and 1959 „The Lord of the Rings“ was published .
Tolkien’s most famous story was a gret success in all bookshops.

In the next eight years John Tolkien published other five books and 1968 he moved to Poland. 1971 his beautiful wife Edith died at the age of 82. Tolkien moved back to Oxford. He got the order of ”Commander of the Brithish Empire” from the Queen. John Ronald Reul Tolkien died on the 2nd of September in 1973 and was 81 years old. He was a great man an today his stories are alive in the hearts of all his fans.

I wrote about Tolkien, because I read his book „The lord of the Rings“ and was very impressed by the story.Tolkien wrote not only a story, he created a new world. He made new languages (for example Sindarin or Quenya) and new nations. It is an incredible work and this impressed me.
