Mani Matter was born on the 14th August 1936. He lived in Wabern near Bern. At the age of 14 he found a record with french songs. He began to be interested in french songs and so he wrote his own new lyrics.
At 17 he had his first apperance at a high-school event. In 1960 followed the first radio recordings. He didn’t only sing alone, but he sang with collegues too. This was in the years from 1960 to 1965. In these years Mani Matter’s songs were sung by other artists too.
1965 his first record came on the market. He was 30 years old.
At that time he performed regulary in the theatre „Zytglogge“ in Bern. He sang often with his new group the „Berner-Troubadours“. In the year 1976 the first program of the „Berner-Troubadours“ was shown regularly on the stage of Bern.
On the 20th February 1970 followed a radio program about „10 years Mani Matter“. After the separation from the „Berner-Troubadours“, Mani Matter performed alone. He had shows all over Switzerland.
After February 1972, Matter worked with the „Troubadours-friends“ on a new project. But in the years from 1973 to 1975 the collegues had to work alone, because Mani Matter died on the 24th November in a car accident.
On the 26th Deceber they made a commemoration program about Mani Matter. There are altogether three books and six records of him, five books written by other authors And now 30 years later, Mani Matter is still very popular.
